A porcelain veneer is a thin shell of dental porcelain — typically less than a millimeter thick — bonded to the front surface of a tooth to change its appearance. Veneers correct several concerns at once: discoloration that doesn't respond to whitening, small chips and worn edges, gaps between teeth, and minor alignment irregularities that don't warrant orthodontics.
Veneers are most often applied to the front 6 to 10 teeth that show when you smile. Each one is custom-made to match the shape, size, and color you've planned together at the consultation. Suncoast uses digital and AI smile design to plan veneers in advance — you see the proposed result before the procedure begins, and for larger cases you can opt for a reversible mock-up of the new smile before committing.
Veneers are not a reversible procedure: a small amount of natural tooth structure is shaped to make room for the shell. Once placed, veneers are permanent — they don't come off — and they typically last 10 to 15 years with proper care before replacement. This is why the planning phase matters so much, and why we offer the try-in step for major cases.
From the free consultation through final placement, most veneer cases follow this sequence over 4 to 8 weeks.
Review your concerns, examine your teeth, take photos, and do digital and AI smile design to show you the proposed result. You decide whether to proceed; no obligation.
For larger cases, we can do a reversible mock-up so you can see and feel the proposed smile before committing. Adjustments to shape, length, and color are made before you say yes.
Small amount of enamel is reshaped from the front of each tooth to make room for the veneer shell. Impressions are taken; temporary veneers are placed so you have functional teeth during the 2–3 week wait.
Custom veneers are fabricated to match your planned shape and color. Most cases take 2–3 weeks for the final veneers to be ready.
Temporary veneers are removed; the final porcelain veneers are bonded in place. Final adjustments to bite and color matching happen at the same visit. You leave with the smile that was planned at step 1.
If you're correcting a chip, discoloration, or gap, the options are veneers, dental bonding, or crowns. Here's how they compare on what matters most.

|---|---|---|
| Lifespan | 10–15 years | Bonding 5–10 yrs; crowns 10–15 yrs |
| Stain resistance | Bonding stains over time | |
