We make it easy to start. Free consultation, no commitment, no judgment if you haven't seen a dentist in years. What your first visit looks like

Consultation first, decisions later

Most first visits start with a free consultation rather than a treatment. We sit down, listen to what you want or what's bothering you, examine the areas you're concerned about, take any imaging needed, and walk through what we see. No procedures happen unless you've agreed to them. The point of the consultation is for you to leave understanding the situation and the options — not committed to anything.

For routine care (cleanings, checkups), you can often combine the consultation with a comprehensive new-patient exam and cleaning. For specific concerns (a painful tooth, a missing tooth, severe anxiety, considering implants or cosmetic work), the consultation is its own visit so we can give it the time it deserves. Same-day emergency care works differently — call us, we'll do our best to fit you in.

We accept patients of all backgrounds, ages, and dental histories. Patients with severe anxiety, patients who haven't been to a dentist in 10+ years, patients with complex medical conditions, patients with mobility needs (we're wheelchair accessible and regularly treat patients from surrounding elderly homes), and patients enrolled in CDCP are all warmly welcome.

What to bring

Your first appointment checklist

A few things make your first visit faster — none are required if you don't have them.

1

Insurance details

Bring your insurance card or policy number if you have private dental insurance. We'll set up direct billing where possible. For CDCP patients, bring your CDCP card or the eligibility confirmation letter.

2

Previous imaging (optional)

If you've had recent dental imaging at another practice (X-rays, panoramic, CBCT), bringing it can save retaking. We can also pull it from your previous dentist with your authorization.

3

Medical history and medications

A current list of your medications, allergies, and major medical conditions. We'll have you fill out a medical history form in office, but having the information on hand speeds it up.

4

Your concerns and goals

What's bothering you? What do you want to change about your smile or oral health? What worries you about dental visits? We listen first; treatment plans come after.

5

Driver if you're using sedation

If you've arranged IV sedation or GA for your first appointment (more common for severe anxiety cases), arrange for someone to drive you home. Not needed for routine consultations.

New patients — frequently asked

Common questions for first-time visitors to Suncoast.

No. Suncoast accepts direct bookings for everything we do — including oral surgery, implants, sedation cases, and complex restorative work. If your previous dentist referred you, we'll coordinate with them; if you found us on your own, we work directly with you.
Free for consultations. For combined consultation + cleaning + exam visits, the cleaning and exam may have associated fees that are typically covered by insurance or CDCP for eligible patients. We're transparent about costs upfront.
A lot. Full sedation menu from nitrous oxide to on-site general anesthesia. See our dental anxiety page for details. The first conversation doesn't involve any treatment, so the consultation itself is low-pressure.
Routine consultations are typically available within 1 to 2 weeks. Emergency appointments are often same-day or next-day — call (226) 22SMILE for those.
Our team helps eligible patients apply. The owner's exact words: "We accept CDCP additionally our team will help those apply for it if they don't know how." See our CDCP eligibility page for details on who qualifies and how applying works.
